"I could never do that!"
" What are eating? Yuck I hate that kind of food!"
" Can't you just eat a little bit and treat yourself now and then?"
" I will get you a spoon just in case you change your mind."
" Everything in moderation..( I even say this one but I hate it)"
" I don't have to worry about what I eat."
" Who cares about what you eat anyway, does it really matter?"
" I can't live without chocolate, I don't know how you do it, I have to have chocolate everyday!"
Just to quote a few of the unbelievable things people have said to me lately. A simple " Wow! Good job!" would suffice, I promise:) It is kind of like when someone dies and people put their foot in their mouth and don't mean to say the wrong thing... so I shall forgive them, but hey I am working hard out here...cut me some slack or GIVE ME A BREAK! ( I am feeling a bit crazy today, can ya tell?)

I can't believe they are saying those things to you. Are they stupid? You are awesome and you CAN do it! I eat about 90% less sugar than I used to, and I'm going to keep it up because I know you are doing something harder and you are successful!
Danelle,
Comebacks:
"It's all about choices."
"Every day in every way, things are getting better and better." (Dad and Mother used to say this during the 1940s during WW II when we were rationing meat and milk and the three of us were living in one walk-up room. I have memories of a big bed squeaking rhythmically... I slept on a cot in an alcove of the small apartment.)
"I'm in good shape for the shape I'm in."
"My family has heart disease and cancer. I want to make my odds of getting those diseases decrease."
"I'm the only one I have to please."
"Getting to the goal is easier if others support me." (To my dear husband whose weight could be lowered a bit, but I am not in the same place as he is.)
Let the comments fly by and remember some things the doctors tell us.
The people on the Biggest Loser are so incredibly determined that it blows me away. I also got my cholesterol and lipids tested this week and the picture is NOT GOOD. I have to make these lifestyle changes.
Surround yourself with people who are thin or who are trying to become healthier. My husband just printed a beautiful picture of me from the 1950. It's me and my former husband, but see how great I looked. (Oh, I have to put it on Photobucket and don't have time tonight. Later... for the picture.)
Kimberly G., a movie reviewer, lost 65 pounds by eliminating sugar, starch and alcohol from her diet. She looks MARVELOUS!
Dr. K in MA: "Losing weight is easy. You know what to do. Just do it." (This was 20 years ago when I turned 50 and perhaps before Nike used the phrase!)
Dr. K in OR: "The people in my family are not that thin and they are dying faster now."
Dr. O in OR: "I am a runner. I run wherever I am and whenever I can. You like to swim? Start swimming three times a week."
I only have young doctors who are interested in natural medicine as well as regular pharmaceuticals.
The cholesterol problem is troublesome, but I cannot take the statins. They make my joints ache and I am afraid of them. Neither of my first cousins, who are males, can tolerate the drugs. I have no siblings, but we share grandparents who were heavy eaters and drinkers and who died very young.
Sorry to carry on like this.
If you weren't so sweet and kind and a devout religious person, I would tell you to swear at them. Some of the Arab curses are fantastic...
Goodnight. We're shampooing the rug in our front bedroom tomorrow.
